Manisha Vaalmiki. Who is she?
A 19-year-old girl who was brutally raped and murdered. She was born and brought up in a Dalit family from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, India. Manisha Valmiki was brutally gang-raped by four men in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. After this incident, she was admitted to a hospital in Delhi where she fought with life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 15 days, and lastly, she lost her life on 29 September 2020. As per reports, Uttar Pradesh police didn’t file an FIR against the culprits and shamelessly defending all these four men. According to media reports, Manisha’s body was burnt by Hathras police officials without the consent of her family at 2:30 AM on 30 September 2020. After which all the villagers protest against the Uttar Pradesh police but the Government has imposed Article 144 in Hathras and seized the borders of the village to prevent any other incident.
This incident took a rage on the internet after Manisha’s death and everyone came in support of Manisha demanding justice for the young girl from the Uttar Pradesh Government. This is the world right now. Do you see how messed up is the future that we are building were rapists are given more protection and power than victims and survivors!
Three things that I personally think India should get rid of for a better future:
1. Rape Culture
2. Religious Politics
3. Caste System
The reason that we would never actually be able to get rid of these? If we do get rid of these then politicians would be forced to answer genuine and basic questions. To ignore those questions they choose to make our thoughts revolve around the last two points which are just filled with nuisance. The first point that I have mentioned is just a big shame to our government and the people of our country that OUR daughters are not safe in OUR country.
Rape is one of the most terrible crimes on earth and it happens every few minutes and the problem with rape is that the groups or societies that try to deal with rape often tend to educate women about how to defend themselves, but that's so not how you are supposed to deal with this issue. What really needs to be done is to teach men not to rape. Go to the source and start from there. Teach girls to prioritize being safe over being nice. Women are not rehabilitation centers for badly raised boys, remember that at all costs. If you think everything's been said and done about rape, then how come nothing has been solved and resolved? Even in today's world women raise their voice because they feel like they aren't being heard and men raise their voice because they feel like they aren't being listened to and that says a lot about how messed up our society as a whole is.
Everyone's afraid that their daughters might get hurt but no one seems to be scared that their sons might become the ones to do it. If "you are afraid for your sons" based on 2% of reported rape cases being false image how terrified you should be for your daughters based on the other 98%" Why do people say "no guy will want you if you keep up with that feminist rubbish" but not "no girl will want you if you keep on being a misogynistic piece of trash" Rape was already a thing back in the 1950s when women wore below-the-knee skirts. Rape was already a thing when in the 1800s when women wore frocks and several layers of clothing underneath. Rape has nothing to do with fashion and everything to do with the rapist. It's a dress, not a yes!
You are not a victim for sharing your story. You are a survivor setting the world on fire with nothing but the truth and you never know who needs your light, your warmth, and your raging courage. Speak out even if your voice shakes. You cannot be afraid to speak up for what you believe. You have to have raw courage.
Reporting an abuser doesn't ruin their life. They did that themselves.
Reporting an abuser doesn't damage their reputation. It makes it more accurate.
Reporting an abuser isn't gossip. It's integrity.
Reporting an abuser doesn't harm their family. It protects them from abuse!!
I'm not here to bash men and say all men are horrible creatures, because if we are gonna talk about rape, let's talk about rape as a whole. Men get raped too. This is very much the truth and needs to be addressed. However, if the only time you are gonna talk about males survivors is when you are interrupting women talking about their experiences then honestly stop pretending that you care about male survivors. To all men who bring up "Men get raped too" just to dilute another, you are not helping, you are harming.
To conclude it all, Men don't rape people. Rapists rape people. It's a cruel crime and its punishment should be equally horrible and it's sad that the society in which we live today doesn't give them the punishment that they deserve. I mean drug dealers get longer sentences than rapists. People ask for drugs. No one asks for rape. Anything positive comes naturally and anything negative is learned throughout your life and so instead of telling your daughters not to get raped tell your sons not to rape and we might be able to see a better society. I started writing this blog as asking justice for Manisha Vaalmiki but, now I'm ending it by saying let this hopefully be the last time we lose another human to violence.
DONT GET RAPED!
